PAST EVENTS:

Local Girl Scouts Community Service Project

Members of the Peace Arch Service Unit #11 painted picnic tables at Post #86 on June 27. The girls were working on a community service project. Co-service unit manager Valerie Hamilton oversaw the project with other leaders & moms helping out to apply a fresh coat of paint on the tables. Hamilton said that the Legion donated their picnic area last summer so the Girl Scout troup could have their yearly picnic and the girls wanted to give back to the Legion. The Peace Arch Unit #11 is comprised of school age girls from Blaine, Birch Bay, Custer, Ferndale & Point Roberts.

Post 86 Club members Dick Sambrano and Jim Morehouse organized the painting project.

2008 Thanksgiving Dinner at the Blaine Senior Center

The American Legion Peace Arch Post 86 in Birch Bay put on another successful Thanksgiving Dinner Thursday, Nov. 27th. With 25+ volunteers working from 2:00am to 3:30pm, Peace Arch Post 86 provided meals to more than 200 people (including 11 home deliveries) this year making it a resounding success.

Thanks to the Northern Light, all the wonderful volunteers without whom we would never have been able to put it all together so well and along with the Whatcom County Health Department for the operating permit, while Dick Bedlington Farms, the Blaine Cost Cutter store as well as the Salvation Army, David Durkin, Genco, The Bank of the Pacific, and the Blaine Senior Center and others, provided food and cash for purchasing items for the dinner.
